Who Do You Want to Target?

Let's start getting YOU started in creating your first stream of online income.

First, you need a plan.

Let's talk about those wonderful people who are about to purchase your service or product. These people are often referred to as your target market or your target audience. We can just call them the Nice People Who Are Poised to Give You Money.

In order for that to happen, three things have to happen:

  1. They have to find you.
  2. They have to like you.
  3. They have to have some money to give you.

Are you clear on who is likely to fit into this category?

Hint: It is not EVERYONE. It may be tempting to think that you can serve everyone; consequently, you create a message that has broad appeal. No, no, no. Marketing to everyone, is marketing to no one. You will just become frustrated because you are not bringing customers and cash into your business.

You must be crystal clear about who your ideal customer is so that you can develop the messaging and content that will help you build and serve your tribe. Per Seth Godin:

A tribe is a group of people connected to one another, connected to a leader, and connected to an idea. For millions of years, human beings have been part of one tribe or another. A group needs only two things to be a tribe: a shared interest and a way to communicate.

The time and energy that you invest here will pay off big as you develop and grow your business.

Think of some things your customers have in common.

It helps to imagine your absolute perfect customer. Take out a pencil and think of every single thing that you know about your perfect customer.  Here are some questions to get your imagination going:

  • Where do they live? (both geographically and what their place is like.)
  • What do they do for a living?
  • How much money do they earn?
  • What are their goals?
  • What is their biggest problem?

nicheOnce you know who your perfect customer is, you know what they want and need. You know what is important to them. And when you know what is important to them, you can figure out how to speak to them. You know what it is about you and your business that you should highlight with them so they will be more inclined to conduct business with you. You will attract them because you message is so targeted that your tribe will feel as though you got inside their heads, read their minds and are speaking directly to them. The more focused and targeted you are, the more you will sell.

If you are not clear about your target market, it is time to get some help. Invest in some one-on-one help from a business mentor. That way you are not working hard, but running in the wrong direction.
