Simple Ideas to Increase Blog Traffic

Simple Ideas to Increase Blog Traffic

Know Your Audience. Get crystal clear on who your blog audience is. When you are on top of the interests and behavior of your audience, you are better able to write content that grabs their attention.

Niche It. If you are writing for everyone, it is challenging to focus and develop a good relationship with your readers. Narrowing your niche will also help you buildup targeted traffic and position yourself as an expert in your field.

Be Consistent. Writing a blog post sporadically slow down traffic to it. I have heard various opinions on blogging frequency; however, most agree that you need to be consistent. I think that two to three times per week is a great goal. Treat blogging as part of your business strategy. Creating an editorial calendar can help you to be strategic and plan your post topics ahead of time. WordPress has a plugin in for this: Editorial Calendar.

Be Personable. People relate to people. The more that you personalize your posts, the more your readers will connect with you. It is helpful to use “you” in your posts so that your readers feel as though you are talking directly to them. Ask your readers a question at the end of the post to invite comments.

Be Passionate. It may be difficult to consistently write blog posts if you are not interested about your topics. Be sure to select a niche and/or an angle of your topic that you enjoy.

Be Shareable. Place social media buttons next to,or at the bottom of your blog posts so that your readers can easily share your posts on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. My preferred WordPress plugin for shareable buttons is Flare. It is free and can be downloaded from the Plugins section of your WP Dashboard.

Immerse Yourself. To get more traffic to your blog, you need to leave your blog. Leave comments that add to the conversation on blogs that are similar to yours. Use Facebook and Twitter to tease your posts and get people interested in your blog. It is not enough to just to blog.

  1. The last point has been key to my blog readership growing.

Most of my referral traffic comes via social media due to the large following I have built up.

I would always advise bloggers and website owners to make social media a key part of their strategy.

    • Hi Mark,
Most of my growth has also come from me leaving my own blog and mingling with other bloggers. I agree that social media needs to be a part of a blogger’s strategy to increase traffic. My goal is to take my social media presence up a level within this first quarter of the year.

  2. Great advice. I’ve maximized most of your strategy. I’ve settled on my target audience with my daily views on news. Blogging daily is addictive.

  6. Hi Rachel,

Great advice! Those are all simple points, but ones that we tend to overlook. I would only add that one needs to be available to be active on social media. An interaction with another peer a day keeps the doctor away!

  7. Hi Rachel,

You’ve done a great job with these tips. These are some of the most important ones for every blogger and especially the one about being consistent is a big one. Thanks for sharing.

If I would add something to the list, it would be to stay consistent with your brand image on all social media channels as well. Why? because everybody who comes across you anywhere on the web, will be able to associate you with your brand image and that is a great way to build a brand identity.

    Thanks for sharing!

  9. These are essential elements for attaining blogging traffic, Rachel.

While they might be easy enough to read through, they are the foundation for a solid traffic strategy for anyone who applies them diligently, and as you point out… consistently.

  10. Hey Rachel, Great blogging traffic tips GF! I especially like the last one where you say to leave your blog, so many people ask me about how to get traffic and this is my main answer. The best way to let others know about you is to get yourself out there on SM as well as commenting on other blogs. Thanks for sharing..Chery :))

  11. NailCentric

I think consistency is the key factor for blog traffic in general, therefore for blog traffic growth. Using social media channels has played a huge part in my blog popularity. Especially Twitter where I now tweet to more than 5000 girls interested in nail art and nail tutorials. It takes some patience to get there though so patience should be a key thing too. Do not give up just because things are not happening as fast as you wish. If you have quality content and slowly find your place in the right communities, everything will get better and better.

  12. Excellent tips Rachel!

And all of them are extremely practical as well. Nothing overly time consuming And that’s always a good thing as well!

I really love all of your tips, but three in particular really standout! first, you advice us to leave our blogs, if you really want to generate some free quality traffic!

Great advice! Hoping your meaning is understood by that proven strategy!LOL!
Next, with regards to knowing our target audience.

When we do, our content should become extremely magnetic to them, pretty fast, if we’ve done our homework!

And finally, you hear this one all the time, but without some real passion for what we’re blogging about!

We simply won’t attract any type of significant audience, nor we will be around and motivated enough to benefit from blogging either! Great tips Rachel! Concise, informative and straight to the point!
