How to Think Faster

meditate-to-think-fasterIf you are like me, you may sometimes feel that your mind is cluttered and you are unable to think straight.  Usually when I feel this way, I can look back at my habits and see that I have not been practicing mindfulness activities–with one of the most effective being meditation.

Meditation is known to be a highly effective alternative health practice and brings immediate results to the overwhelming majority of people who have used the technique.  It is an ancient discipline that involves gradual relaxation and rhythmic breathing, and strategic postures. It involves quieting the mind, decreasing the number of synapses that fire in our brain and entering into a deeper state of consciousness, such as the alpha level.

One of the most popular forms of meditation is Zen meditation and there are millions of people are practicing it all  around the world.

Research has shown that meditation can help us concentrate better on your tasks overall because it naturally clears mental fog.

It is quite easy to start meditating.  Following is a short guide for meditating at home:

  1. Find a comfortable chair to sit in and straighten your back so that you have a good, comfortable posture.
  2. Focus on a spot on the wall across from you. Keep your head up and your neck straight.
  3. Breathe through your nose.
  4. Upon the inhale, allow your lower abdominal to really expand. Your chest will follow naturally. Imagine that your abdominal is being inflated from within and you want it to expand to let the oxygen in. Observe your breath.
  5. Pay close attention to the movement of the air passing through your nose. Try to focus on the movement itself upon inhalation and exhalation. Try this exercise daily, five to eight minutes per session.

Follow these tips and you will most likely discover that your mood and brain power are boosted naturally throughout the day.

    I also find that focused meditation or mindfulness practice helps a lot when I start to become scattered. As a reiki master, I will sit down and do a self-treatment, which has the same effect.

I must confess I’ve never been able to get into meditating, though I’d love to find a way and certainly there are more than enough studies about the benefits to justify the efforts.   8. I am an avid fan of meditation. Many people think you have to practice Zen, or the Buddhist’s way of meditation, but you don’t. Mindful meditation also known as”insight” meditation creates the same results. Anyone can experience what I like to call “self-calm” by just slowing down and focusing on deep breathing. One day I’ll teach a class on this. Thanks for sharing. More people are becoming aware of the benefits of meditation and that is really a wonderful thing.
