How to Plan Your Projects

How to Plan Your Projects

When we have a map or plan of just how we want our business to look in a year or two, that plan will determine what actions you take every day. A true entrepreneur bases every decision on that vision. You won't be "flying by the seat of your pants". This is not about some huge business plan. This is about getting clear on the details of the business you hope to create and getting both the dream and the details down on paper. Why? Because entrepreneurs are idea generators and it is very easy to get distracted and unfocused.

There are three very simple but important questions that you should ask yourself regarding every task that you are planning to undertake for a given project that will resolve the issue of  prioritization:

  1. Which tasks are critical to the my project's success?
  2. Which tasks are important, but not critical?
  3. Which tasks are optional?

Critical tasks are those without which your project will fail.

Important tasks are those that will help you complete your project; however, they can be worked around if you are unable to perform them.

Optional tasks are the icing on the cake.  They are the things that will add a touch of class, reinforce your brand or otherwise make you memorable for your clients and colleagues.  They are not required for completion of the project.

Create your own worksheet to list the tasks required for your project and to classify them as critical, important, or optional. This will go far in helping your 2016 planning for how to implement your project efficiently (quickly) and effectively (well).
